Drains, trays and fitting
What does the clamping frame actually do?
It is screwed down on top of the vinyl around the drain opening. That seals the cut edge and holds it in place, so the vinyl cannot lift or peel back from the drain over time.
Which floor coverings is it for?
Sheet vinyl and vinyl safety flooring used in wet rooms. If you are not sure your flooring will suit the clamp, call the technical team on 0800 368 9956 before ordering.
Should I choose the drain or the tray?
Choose the drain on its own if your fitter will form the falls in the floor, or if the drain needs to go somewhere a tray will not fit. Choose a Showerlay VF tray if you want the 2% falls made for you, with the clamping drain already built in.
Can it be fitted in a timber floor?
Yes. The drain's fitting instructions show it being fitted into a timber floor, and the Showerlay VF trays are made for timber floors as well as concrete. On timber, the tray needs a plywood underboard; see installation.
How far up the wall should the vinyl go?
The fitting instructions ask for at least 100 mm of vinyl on the wall surface.
Do I need to tank the whole bathroom?
The tray instructions make tanking the shower and splash area mandatory before the vinyl goes down. Tanking the rest of the room is optional.
What is the lowest waste trap?
With the drain on its own, the H+M Snake, at 46 mm high. With a Showerlay VF tray, the H+M Snake 360, at 50 mm and fully rotatable. The linear drain page lists all six traps.
Can the tray be cut to size?
Yes. A Showerlay VF tray can be trimmed by up to 50 mm on each side. Trim both sides equally so the falls still lead to the drain.
My tray arrived slightly bowed. Is it damaged?
No. The cement and mesh reinforcement can curve the board a little. Lay it on an even floor with something heavy on each corner and it settles back to flat within a few hours.
Does it work with underfloor heating?
The Showerlay VF tray is compatible with underfloor heating, but because the tray insulates, heating installed underneath it will warm the shower area less. Thin underfloor heating can go on top of the tray, within the allowance for materials laid over it.
What guarantee does it have?
Wiper guarantees the drain for 10 years. Buy the Wiper waterproofing kit with it and that becomes 25 years. On top of that, you have 30 days to send it back to Wetrooms Design.
Are there trade discounts?
